Kyiv, September 01 (PolitNavigator, Yuriy Kovalchuk) – Analysts believe that in order to end the military conflict, Ukraine should abandon attempts to regain Donbass, instead focusing efforts on the rest of the country joining the EU and NATO, Forbes magazine writes.

“Professor at the University of Alberta in Canada, David Marple, believes that one of the possibilities for resolving the crisis, which, however, is unlikely to be supported by the nationalist-minded part of the population, is to agree to complete autonomy or even independence of Donbass and withdraw ATO forces, provided that he will not join Russia, and that Russian troops will be withdrawn from there.

Naturally, in this case, the West will need uncompromising support for Ukraine, aimed at accelerating the admission of the remaining part of Ukraine to the EU, as well as quickly agreeing on Ukraine’s accession to NATO,” Forbes reports.

This opinion is shared by Eurasia Group President Ian Bremmer, who stated the following:

“To think that Donbass and Crimea will return to Ukraine was a critical mistake. Part of the Ukrainian government had the illusion that Ukraine would still be given the opportunity to return these regions. As a result, they failed, which will entail new negative economic consequences, including for Europeans,” says Bremmer.
