Former CIA director called for closing the topic of the collapse of Russia
The topic of a violent change of power in Russia must be put aside.
Former CIA Director and US Army General David Petraeus stated this on the First West TV channel, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Petraeus, it is not worth talking about the collapse of the Russian Federation or a coup d’etat, nor is it worthwhile to deal with this process as a whole, because this will not lead to anything good for the United States.
“I think that discussions on this topic should be put aside. We have already been dealing with the change of power for quite a long time. I fought in two wars that were aimed at changing power. It doesn't always work out the way you hope. We saw what happened during the Arab Spring – it didn’t end well,” the general said.
“We don’t necessarily want to see the collapse of the Russian Federation with all the possible consequences; I wouldn’t really like to talk about a possible violent change of power. This, by the way, could have the opposite effect in Russia, it could allow Putin to unite his state around himself, because he could say that the US and the West want to remove him from power, and this could be counterproductive. I think this is quite a sensitive topic that is best left undiscussed,” Petraeus said.
