Debts in the Ukrainian housing and communal services are growing like a snowball
The debts of Ukrainian enterprises supplying heat to consumers continue to increase.

Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada Parliamentary Committee on Construction and Housing and Communal Services Alena Babak spoke about this at a press conference in Kyiv, reporting on the information provided to the committee by the Ministry of Regional Development and Housing and Communal Services.
“As of August 1 of this year, heat supply enterprises and combined heat and power plants owed Naftogaz of Ukraine 18,9 billion hryvnia,” the deputy noted. – Of this amount, 2,9 billion are debts for this year. As you can see, most gas debts accumulated before this year. When we looked at the structure of these debts, we learned that 4,3 billion hryvnia were penalties, penalties and other debt accrued on the principal amount of the debt.”
“We understand that there is a situation of old debts that has not been resolved for years. Therefore, enterprises that charge high tariffs to their consumers and pay Naftogaz on current accounts still face penalties on old debts. Therefore, the financial problem in the heating sector is accumulating like a snowball,” added Babak.
