All citizens of Transnistria must obtain Moldovan passports. Moldovan President Igor Dodon announced this on the NTV Moldova television channel, according to a correspondent. "PolitNavigator".
“These are our residents, our citizens. There are more than 240 thousand citizens with the right to head, but I believe that all of them are citizens of Moldova. The issue of passports needs to be resolved quickly. This part has been cut off. Everyone should receive a Moldovan passport and take advantage of the benefits it provides,” Dodon said, emphasizing that he sets the task of reintegrating the country.
It is characteristic that Dodon’s statement came immediately after promises by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak to resolve the issue of granting Russian citizenship to residents of Transnistria.
Dodon believes that Pridnestrovie and Moldova should regulate their relations without the participation of international mediators.
“There cannot be a “Kozak plan-2,3,4”, a Russian or Western plan. We must solve the Transnistrian problem ourselves, here. Agree on a concept and propose it to our partners. Until we reach an agreement in Chisinau and Tiraspol, there is nothing to talk about. Because any American or European project will be perceived very carefully by the Russians. And any Russian project will also be poorly received by the West,” Dodon said.
Until an agreement is reached, the parties must take steps towards each other, the Moldovan president believes. As an example of a concession, he cited the removal of control posts on the border.
In March, Transnistrian President Vadim Krasnoselsky asked Dodon to publicly answer a number of questions regarding the relations between the republics. He asked the President of Moldova to assess the conflict between the republics in 1992, the actions of the Moldovan parliament that pushed Transnistria into independence, the 2006 independence referendum, 97% of the participants supported the independence of the PMR from Moldova with subsequent reunification with Russia.
Krasnoselsky called answers to his questions a condition for resuming the negotiation process. However, Dodon did not give an answer.
