State Duma deputy: Our president doesn’t just go to summits
Kyiv, February 12 (PolitNavigator, Maxim Karpenko) - The main reason why the West and Kyiv requested negotiations with Moscow was the offensive of the militias and the organization of the Debaltseve cauldron. State Duma deputy, President of the Politika Foundation Vyacheslav Nikonov stated this on the air of the “Special Correspondent” program.

According to him, the most combat-ready part of the Ukrainian troops was surrounded, but the likelihood of a peaceful resolution of the conflict is high, since Vladimir Putin is taking part in the negotiations in Minsk.
“A week ago, no one was talking about peace, and suddenly Merkel and Holland arrive and the peace process begins. What happened? But in reality Debaltsevo happened. Up to 30% of Ukrainian weapons, a significant part of the army, were surrounded there. In general, the Ukrainian army and defense system is on the verge of collapse. And under these conditions, Poroshenko is ready for a ceasefire, because otherwise Ukraine will face military defeat. It gives us hope that Putin is in Minsk. Our president doesn’t just go to summits,” Nikonov said.
