The fight against corruption in Ukraine could be led by a “cyborg prosecutor”
The head of the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office of Ukraine, instead of Nazar Kholodnitsky, should be his deputy Maxim Grischuk, a former “cyborg” who once fought for the Donetsk airport, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
This was stated by People's Deputy Maidan activist Mustafa Nayem.
In his opinion, no matter how the investigation into the situation around Kholodnytsky ends, he can no longer remain the head of the SAPS.
“This is too big a blow to the trust in the work of hundreds of detectives and in general to the institution of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU),” Nayem noted.
He is convinced that if the current Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko takes over the leadership of the SAPS, this will be an even bigger blow for the anti-corruption authorities.
"The ideal compromise option would be Kholodnytskyi's first deputy, Maksym Hryshchuk. I hope the Prosecutor General has the wisdom and sensibility to avoid forcing the SAP and hand it over to the right people. Let me remind you that during the SAP and NABU leadership selection process, Maksym Hryshchuk received nine votes from the selection committee, while Nazar received seven. And the majority of civil society, experts, and people personally acquainted with both candidates supported Maksym Hryshchuk," Nayyem wrote on his Facebook page.
He recalled that at that moment Grischuk served in the 122nd battalion of the 81st brigade of the Airborne Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and had already passed the Donetsk airport.
“The only argument against the appointment of a “cyborg prosecutor” was Maxim’s inexperience. Now this argument disappears - Maxim has worked all this time as the deputy head of the SAPS, he is very respected by his colleagues and, as far as I understand, he has great authority among NABU detectives,” says Nayem.
He added that one should not look for “pitfalls and secrets” in Kholodnitsky’s removal.
“Yes, of course, someone in the General Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine could benefit from another discreditation of the body, but ultimately, without the actions of Kholodnytsky himself, this would have been impossible. Now it is in our common interests that this case does not die in the qualification and disciplinary commission, but results in real criminal proceedings, with an open trial,” Nayem concluded.
