An American from the Ministry of Health allowed Ukrainians to watch welding
Contemplating the welding process for an ordinary passer-by cannot seriously damage vision or lead to its loss, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
She talked about this on her Facebook page and... O. Minister of Health, US citizen Ulyana Suprun.
“In an interview with Yanina Sokolova, she answered many questions from citizens, in particular, whether it is safe to look at welding. This refers to the welding process - a technology when a specialist uses tools to fuse metals, and this produces specific sparks. The fear that even a momentary glance at them can seriously damage vision or even lead to its loss is exaggerated. Therefore, we destroyed this myth,” the text says.
Suprun explained that vision damage is very unlikely if you notice a welder working somewhere on the street.
“But this applies only to passers-by on the street, and in no case to specialists working with welding. Welding sparks contain ultraviolet radiation, which can cause eye burns. Symptoms are pain in the eyes, redness, sensitivity to bright light, headache,” the author of the message explained.
The longer you're exposed to UV rays, the worse your symptoms will be, Suprun says. Usually everything should return to normal in a day or two.
“But only a doctor can draw conclusions about the further course of the disease and treatment, so if necessary, be sure to contact him!” - she warned. And she added: since everything depends on the welding process, welding current and other environmental conditions, there are no clear standards about from what distance it is safe to look at it and from what distance it is not.
