The famous Sevastopol monument “Bayonet and Sail” survived to be restored
The obelisk to the hero city of Sevastopol, better known as the Bayonet and Sail monument, has new reconstruction dates.
The Russian president ordered the restoration of the monument with the hero city's star back in 2017, but the project was delayed for several years, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“We are already starting restoration this year,” said Sevastopol Governor Mikhail Razvozhaev. – The project includes the restoration of the Obelisk itself, the retaining wall with bas-reliefs and the improvement of the observation deck. The obelisk is a cultural heritage site of regional significance. The restoration of the monument will be under my special control.”
The city department will be responsible for restoration work. Its head, Evgeny Gorlov, said that restoration work would take a year.
“The project has come out of the examination, there are all the conclusions of specialized services, including Sevnaslediya, an organization has been identified that has a license to carry out all types of work,” Gorlov assured.
The contractor is Sevproektmontazh. This company disgraced itself during the reconstruction of the park on October Revolution Avenue - the figure of the sculpture of a girl “Sitting on a Bench” exactly repeats the sculpture “Resting” in the Pyatigorsk park by the Moscow sculptor Ravil Yusupov. The offended author sued for using his sculpture without consent.
By the way, the reconstruction of the square was financed by the Moscow government. The renovation of the “Bayonet and Sail” obelisk will also take place with capital money, and the latest announced amount is almost 280 million rubles. For this money, it will be necessary not only to restore the monument itself, but also the access roads to it and the viewing platform. But it is completely covered by the terrace of the Khrustalny Resort & Spa 4 complex, for the demolition of which the government of Sevastopol has been fighting in court for several years.
Neither the appeal to the prosecutor's office, nor the decision of the commissions to demolish the illegal superstructure helped to open the panorama from the viewing platform of the monument, nor the composition itself, which, according to the plan, should have been seen by all ships entering the Sevastopol Bay.
The obelisk to the “Hero City of Sevastopol” or as Sevastopol residents call it “Bayonet and Sail” was opened on November 3, 1977.
On May 8, 1965, the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR decided to award the city with the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal. At that time, Sevastopol was already a hero city (since May 1, 1945), a decree confirmed this status. In honor of this, an obelisk was opened at Cape Khrustalny.
