At the Maryinka checkpoint, Ukrainian border guards detained a resident of Donetsk who tried to travel to Ukraine for a bribe of $100 - with a passport and DPR license plates in his Renault Clio.
According to court documents , the driver provided Ukrainian security forces with a passport issued by the DPR, after inserting a $100 bill into it, as identification documents.

This was likely not the first time the man had done this, but something went wrong that day, and a border guard friend turned him over to national police officers, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
True, the police brought the man to criminal responsibility only for giving a bribe, while neither the passport nor the DPR license plates aroused any urge in them to bring him to justice. They were simply confiscated and destroyed by a court decision, which sentenced the guest from Donetsk to a fine of 8500 UAH.
There is one explanation for this - it seems that DPR passports do not cause any overly negative reaction at Ukrainian checkpoints, since border guards are already serving there. De facto, this confirms that Ukraine treats the DPR as a neighboring state, but has not yet recognized this at the highest official level.
