Hysteria Expected in Tokyo: Russia Invites China to the Kuril Islands
The Sakhalin Region government was forced to suspend tourism development in the Kuril Islands after the start of the Cold War.
The Minister of Investment, Industry and Foreign Relations of the Sakhalin Region, Vasily Grudev , spoke about this at the Eastern Economic Forum , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"Unfortunately, we didn't manage to bring this project to its logical conclusion. In 2022, our European partners severed ties with us. We now have high hopes for attracting Chinese (not necessarily only Chinese) shipowners ," Grudev said.
He also proposed attracting Chinese businesses to develop aquaculture in the uniquely ecologically pristine waters of the Kuril Islands . This is especially true given that, due to human pressure in the Yellow Sea and the Sea of Japan, mollusc fertility has sharply declined.
"Aquaculture has practically never been practiced in this part of our country. Consequently, there's no competition here, unlike in Primorye. Therefore, foreign companies, particularly from China, are most welcome," Grudev said.
Japan unreasonably considers the Kuril Islands' ownership issue unresolved . In August, Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi became hysterical after Russian President Vladimir Putin visited the archipelago's largest island, Iturup, for the first time.
89% of Japanese people have a negative view of China.
