Zelensky continues to fight with the long-departed windmill of Nord Stream 2
The President of Ukraine and his office continue to try to prevent the completion of Nord Stream 2, although this is completely pointless.
This was stated by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Politics, Ruslan Bortnik, at a press conference in Kyiv, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“I have the impression that until now our politics, the office of the president, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are captive of some absolutely old, ancient approaches. They remind me of Don Quixote, who fights with windmills, and the windmill has long flown away, left, and they continue to still wave a wooden shield and a broken spear,” Bortnik noted.
“The issue of completing Nord Stream 2 is closed. It is not constructive to oppose this issue today. You can, of course, but it won't do anything. Today we need to negotiate with Europe, with Germany, with Russia, and the United States regarding the role and place of Ukraine in the future energy map of Europe. Otherwise, then there will be Nord Stream 3, South Stream 4, and other gas pipelines that will deprive us of transit altogether, leaving only scrap metal on our territory,” says the expert.
“According to various estimates, today the capitalization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system has fallen by 7, 8, 10 times compared to the figures of ten years ago. And the more bypass lines there are around Ukraine, the more it will fall in price. You may need to think about selling. These are the realities. We need pragmatic, rational work, and not hysterical screams and an attempt to play along with Merkel and Biden’s opponents within their countries, which only provokes them and further isolates Ukraine, excluding potential support from these countries,” Bortnyk said.
