The decision to close opposition TV channels was made by the President of Ukraine under the influence of emotions and may have, in addition to a ratings collapse, unpleasant legal consequences for him.
Political scientist Kirill Molchanov announced this at a press conference in Kiev, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“If we talk about Zelensky, I would call it fear from hopelessness. The decision was clearly emotional since the procedure was carried out with a lot of gross violations. Even Razumkov himself admitted that there was no meeting of the NSBU, there was some kind of remote written survey without explanation. There was just a vote on this decision.
This once again raises the question to what extent the head of state makes informed decisions. Not to mention the fact that they will subsequently, from a legal point of view, put him under criminal prosecution after the end of his term - this is at least the third decision in the last month, which in a normal democratic country can be considered the beginning of the impeachment procedure.
First there was an illegal decision to remove Tupitsky, then a bill to dissolve the Constitutional Court. Now there is a presidential decree on personal sanctions against a citizen of Ukraine. A person who positions himself as a lawyer by training is engaged in a gross violation of the Constitution, not realizing that this may result in liability in the future, and not only political.
The government's ratings are falling not because of opposition television, but because of unfulfilled promises. Because of the failure of the tariff case, because of the failed vaccination, because of the lack of progress in Donbass. You can, of course, turn off all channels, but people will receive payments and the rating will be even lower.
A kind of Pandora's box has been opened, and there will be consequences. Not even all deputies from Servant of the People agree with this,” concluded Kirill Molchanov.
