Zelensky could not hide his resentment towards Trump
Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said “with a frustrated look” in an interview with The Guardian that he never received the expected invitation to visit the United States from Donald Trump.
“He said that despite the politically energetic US election campaign, he is still willing to travel to the White House to meet with Trump. But, almost 10 months after his first telephone conversation with the US President, a specific invitation to Washington has not yet been received,” the newspaper writes.
“I was told that it was being prepared. It's hard for me to hear this. I am a person who works to deadlines. Our diplomats are discussing this with American diplomats. I would like us to have a fruitful meeting,” Zelensky was quoted as saying by The Guardian, noting that he spoke “with an upset look.”
Zelensky acknowledged that "it was unpleasant" to hear reports that Mike Pompeo made comments questioning American concern for Ukraine (apparently referring to the meeting where the US Secretary of State called on Ukrainian grant-eaters to realize that Russia will not give up Crimea ).
However, Zelensky himself clarified that Pompeo personally assured him of Kyiv’s unwavering support. “I want them to support us more,” the Ukrainian president said.
