"I'd like to remind you that, for example, those individuals who have been sanctioned are prohibited by law from speaking publicly or continuing such activity, as per sanctions legislation. Consequently, those who participate in broadcasts with them may also fall under the definition of violating sanctions legislation. So, the very instrument for imposing such sanctions, extrajudicial as it is, raises enormous doubts and criticism. But then comes the enforcement of the law, the instrument itself. And then , anyone who acts in this manner will be violating the law, and the principle of 'the law is bad, but it must be followed' applies," Bortnik stated.

The expert notes that many public opinion leaders in Ukraine – from journalists to politicians and commentators – have lost their audience.

" You can literally go live with an iron, but how will anyone see you if your channel, for example, is blocked in a country or countries, or if your channel is taken away from you altogether ? You might have an iron, or a mobile phone, or a camera, but if your YouTube channels are blocked, your TikTok channels are blocked. I recently watched a blogger whose TikTok channels with approximately a million subscribers were deleted. I know a lot of examples of people who moved from channel to channel, only to have them constantly shut down. If the first channel they closed had around a million followers, now they're working on their fourth or fifth channel with 5 followers. That's the entire audience that remains; the rest simply got lost along the way.

"Furthermore, these kinds of processes are accompanied by a very serious information distortion. This creates a dead space around a person, making communication with them difficult, dangerous, and unpopular... Some top presenters in Ukraine weren't even subject to sanctions; they simply fell victim to classic "cancellation culture" and abandoned their profession," the political scientist concluded.
