This opinion was expressed in a conversation with a PolitNavigator correspondent by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik.
“We saw what a fierce confrontation took place between Saakashvili and the team of Prime Minister Yatsenyuk, whom Saakashvili accused of a huge number of crimes, and then with the president’s entourage,” the expert recalled. – A criminal case was even initiated against Saakashvili at the suggestion of the deputies - he allegedly caused damage during the privatization of the Odessa port plant. I am sure that one of the main issues for the Georgian team is the issue of customs and HMOs. Therefore, the Georgian team is blackmailing its members with withdrawal today.”
“While Saakashvili’s resignation is not a fait accompli, it may not take place if the parties agree,” Bortnik believes. – There are no statements from top officials in this case yet. Everyone understands that Saakashvili’s resignation will deal a serious blow to the image of the president and his team not only in Ukraine, but also abroad. I think there is a trade going on - the Georgian team wants to regain influence on the economic and political situation in the region.”
