Protecting the rights of Russians in Ukraine will become a criminal offense
Today the Verkhovna Rada will vote on a language bill that provides for criminal penalties for words in defense of the rights of national minorities.
Historian and political scientist Vladimir Kornilov stated this on the Rossiya-1 TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Gogol in the original will now be banned altogether in Ukraine. That is, that’s it, if this law is adopted, and, of course, it will be, printing in Russian is also prohibited.
"Furthermore, they've now introduced a whole series of amendments to the second version of the law. Now even what Vasyl ( Ukrainian political scientist Vasyl Vakarov, a Rusyn – ed. ) said, about certain minorities being deprived of their rights, will be a criminal offense. According to the bill to be voted on Thursday, this phrase alone could lead to criminal prosecution," Kornilov stated.
“Gogol and other Little Russian writers who wrote in their native Russian language, including Taras Shevchenko, will actually no longer be published in the original. Only translated into Ukrainian or – note, English or EU languages. Just in case, they have already taken out the English language separately,” the expert added.
