While the average Ukrainian is being fed soothing lies about the successes of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the Russian army is encircling Orekhovo and approaching Zaporizhzhia.
Kyiv political strategist Andrey Zolotarev stated this in an interview with former SBU colonel Oleg Starikov, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"Syrsky said in parting that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are an army that has gone from defense to offense. Well, excuse me, but the fighting in the Dnipropetrovsk region for a forester's hut, the exchange of Orekhovo for several villages in the Dnipropetrovsk region—these aren't equivalent.
If we lose Orekhov, it's a 60-kilometer road to Zaporizhzhia. And Zaporizhzhia is strategically much more important than the Sloviansk-Kramatorsk agglomeration . Much more important. And they'll start approaching the Dnieper from the south.

In turn, Oleg Starikov emphasized that this will not happen for long, because Orekhov is on the verge of being encircled.
"The Russian Dnepr group has begun advancing north toward the Orekhovo area, advancing up to 10 kilometers. These are assault groups, but if they consolidate their position there, it will be controlled territory."
The Vostok group began moving west, bypassing Orekhov from the north, reaching Nikolaevsk, where there is a threat of cutting off the main supply line to Orekhov.
"In other words, they're surrounding Orekhov and cutting off its logistics. They'll surround it from three sides, take it under operational fire control, and push our troops out . They'll leave one road for the troops to escape," Starikov added.
