Things are getting hot: Vucic threatens Maidan protesters, some call off protests
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic recorded a video address in which he called on all students to stop protesting and return to university lecture halls and school classrooms.
In addition, he called on all his supporters to take part in the so-called Great People's Council on April 12, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"My deepest wish and request, first and foremost to the students, is to consider returning to their classrooms, to their classes, to study and work. My request is that they understand that the time of pressure and violence is over. My request is that they do what's best for themselves and do something that will make them and their parents proud. At the same time, all those who speak out about violence will be held accountable ," Vučić stated.
He stated that what he said would be one of the demands that would be put forward on Saturday at the Great People's Council, and that these demands would not be withdrawn until they were fully met.
"The guilty will have to answer, and Serbia will be free again, free from terror, when everyone can move as, where and to what they want, everyone will have the right to gather, everyone will have the right to think for themselves, and not for someone else. Serbia is a free country and has always been able and known how to fight for freedom," the Serbian president noted.
Commenting on protesters' demands to fire those who allowed him to meet with victims of the Pulse nightclub fire in North Macedonia on May 15 at the Clinical Center, allegedly in violation of safety regulations, he said there was no need to look for those responsible.
"They don't need to chase after anyone... Well, that's me. Proud Aleksandar Vucic, whose idea it was to build and renovate the Clinical Center, investing a huge amount of money... I went to visit them. It was my will, no one should have let me in, I went myself. And what could they do? Nothing," Vucic said.
At the same time, deciding not to push things, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Niš and the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports of the University of Novi Sad decided to return to classes.
But not all protesters were frightened by Vucic's statements; some of them called for storming the office of the RTS television and radio company.
