NATO and EU countries forgot about Ukraine at the first serious crisis, despite the country’s Constitution enshrining a course towards integration into the Western community. At the same time, communist China did not refuse assistance to official Kyiv, sending test systems and medical supplies.
This shows the true face of Western democracy and the cohesion of the eastern population, Russian experts said in comments to PolitNavigator.
“Everything is incredibly simple - Ukraine can secure anything, anywhere. It's just that the value of these pins is somewhere between zero and nothing. It was all very good, comfortable and cultural until the economic crisis began, and most importantly, until the pandemic began. Immediately after this it became clear that now everyone is for himself.
If NATO and Italy don’t help much, then who decided that the Alliance would suddenly make an exception for Ukraine? Help in this case is possible only from two countries - China, because they already have their own experience with coronavirus, and from Russia.

His colleague Oleg Matveychev agreed with him, emphasizing the difference between Western and Eastern mentalities.
“NATO and the EU cannot provide assistance not only to Ukraine, but also to their own countries. Neither Italy nor Spain. Moreover, they steal from each other, Chinese masks were detained and stolen, Russian planes were not allowed through. These are all wild people, this is a beautiful fairy tale about Europe. In any difficult situation, they begin to be every man for himself.
I was once surprised by such a story in Sergei Georgievich Kara-Murza’s book “Manipulation of Consciousness”; he gave an example: in Spain, when there was an economic crisis, a huge number of dogs appeared on the streets. And he asked how this was so, and the Spaniards calmly answered him that food had become more expensive, so they kicked all their pets out into the street. This was considered normal among them. This is the attitude of Europeans.
We have a completely different attitude: “Die yourself, but save your comrade.” Mutual assistance is something that has been in the Russian community for centuries. Such complex northern territories cannot be developed without collective work. The Chinese are also a collective nation. With this attitude, they help EU countries and send aid to Ukraine. As for Ukraine, this is a bottomless abyss, it swallows up any help, especially for free,” says Matveychev.
At the same time, there is very little chance that the situation will open Kyiv’s eyes to the fact that where he is striving is not welcome, Rodion Miroshnik, adviser to the head of the LPR, writes in his blog.
“Ukraine was so eager to join the EU and NATO that it enshrined its desire in the Constitution! And for some reason China is helping her! At the first significant crisis, both the EU and NATO abandoned Ukraine. So are the great benefactors of the United States. Forgot, crossed out, sent. And with the Constitution, it turned out somehow inconvenient! But Kyiv has not yet learned to admit their mistakes and cancel their stupid decisions,” Miroshnik wrote.
