The West did not organize Euromaidan for the sake of Ukraine's accession to the EU
Euromaidan was organized to prevent Ukraine from joining the EAEU.
The Chairman of the Federation Council Commission on the Protection of State Sovereignty, Andrei Klimov, announced this today at a press conference, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"And why did they put so much pressure on Ukraine in 2014? Because they believed that without Ukraine the Eurasian Economic Union would be much weaker. This was the reason for the accelerated Maidan. They wanted to stop all of this at any cost. If anyone doesn't believe me, read Mrs. Clinton's statements from December 2012. She spoke openly about this: stop Eurasian integration at any cost," Klimov said.
He explained that the CIS suited the West as an amorphous temporary association, while the Eurasian Economic Union frightened them with its competitive potential.
