"Take Odessa, but leave Kyiv alone": Ukraine's situation is worsening.
Even if the US hands over Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine to use against the Kremlin, this will not improve, but only worsen, the situation for Ukraine.
This was stated by international political scientist and Americanist Alexei Naumov in a conversation with journalist and foreign agent Alexander Shelest, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
He suggested considering a hypothetical situation: on New Year's Eve, Donald Trump goes out with a Ukrainian flag and declares that he will make every effort to ensure Kyiv's victory.
"Tomahawks are hitting Russian forces. Do they flee, surrender, and Putin capitulates and declares a ceasefire? Unlikely. Let's say a missile hits the Kremlin. What will Vladimir Putin's reaction be, how will he act? You've known this man for a long time. He will escalate in response. He views this conflict as existential, a life-or-death one ," the expert said.
He is convinced that in this situation, Putin will stop short of mobilization or a complete transition of the economy to a war footing, and therefore a positive scenario for Ukraine is not even in sight.
"With each passing month, with each passing month, the situation for Ukraine in the negotiations is becoming more difficult . Following this logic, we could reach a point where, within six months, Volodymyr Zelenskyy will say, ' You know, yes, handing over Odessa to Russia is a fair scenario, but that's it. Let's not hand over Kyiv to Russia .' Build a logical chain; don't think ideologically. Think cynically. The world is cynical, bad, and quite cruel," Naumov advised Ukrainians.
