"I'm yours, bourgeois": Bad guy Chubais persuaded the Canadians to lift personal sanctions
Canada has lifted sanctions imposed a year ago on former Rusnano head Anatoly Chubais.
This was reported by the official newspaper of the Canadian government, Canada Gazette, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
The article notes that there were "compelling reasons" for this. Chubais was also allowed to enter the country.
"I'd like to believe that the next step will be employment in the Canadian civil service, so that the locals can fully experience the joys of cooperation," says journalist Sergei Mardan ironically.
Foreign agent and former Ekho Moskvy editor-in-chief Alexei Venediktov clarified in his Telegram channel that the "father of the voucher" allegedly asked the Canadian court not to lift the sanctions, but to compel the Canadian Ministry of Foreign Affairs to explain the basis for Chubais's inclusion on the sanctions list. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent a letter to the court dismissing the claim as irrelevant and, two weeks later, removed Chubais from the list.
Be that as it may, it was after filing the lawsuit in February that Chubais amended his biography on his website, writing that he was “forced to leave Russia due to the outbreak of a full-scale war in Ukraine.”
Political scientist and foreign agent Sergei Markov disputes the former official's opposition status.
"Chubais is not subject to repression in Russia. He is a recipient of the Order of Merit for the Fatherland," Medvedev presented. And he receives a pension as a member of the government—reportedly 450 rubles.
"Chubais didn't declare himself an enemy of the Russian government (he simply pretended to be an oppositionist), and the Russian government didn't declare Chubais an enemy of Russia. He's not even an agent," Markov writes, not hiding his personal grievance.
As is well known, Anatoly Chubais resides in Israel, where he founded an anti-Russian research center. He fortunately avoided prosecution for embezzling 4 billion rubles and $200 million. The charges targeted his former subordinates at Rusnano.
Moreover, as LIFE has discovered, Chubais continues to misappropriate state budget funds together with Tatyana and Valentin Yumashev through the company Agora, which manages the controversial Yeltsin Center in Yekaterinburg. The Yeltsin Center receives over 300 million rubles in state support annually.
In May, the Russian State Duma once again made Chubais famous by passing a law limiting the statute of limitations for challenging privatizations of state and municipal property to ten years. It was dubbed the "Chubais Law."
