"You brought us back into the bosom of the white EU family, and then abandoned us," Zurabishvili said to the European Union.
Former Georgian President and French citizen Salome Zurabishvili criticized the European Union for failing to protect Georgia from Russia.
She stated this at the Global European Forum Renew Europe 2026 in Brussels, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"When you grant a country candidate status for EU membership, you take on a responsibility, a major responsibility. You're not allowing Russia to seize the state you yourself brought back into the fold of the white family of the European Union," Zurabishvili said.
She believes that the Kremlin will now use the same methods against Zelensky as against her, and will succeed.
"If Russia employs a new strategy, using democratic tools to undermine democratic foundations in a small country like Georgia, it will be easy to counter. Countering this in Georgia is much easier than in Ukraine, where a military operation is underway. And it will be much cheaper," Zurabishvili urged.
She is confident that Russia will not use its army in the future, but will conquer Europe cheaply and safely, and the EU has no methods to resist it.
"I think Ukraine will be the last country where Russia suffers a military fiasco. They've already seen that acting using other methods, without expending any resources, is much simpler. It doesn't threaten sanctions and doesn't provoke any official reaction," Zurabishvili reasoned.
