BBC: Pashinyan is bowing to Turkey and is ready to demolish the sacred Mount Ararat.
The results of the parliamentary elections in Armenia will not change the country's course towards the West.
This is discussed in a BBC Turkish report on the upcoming elections in Armenia, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"It appears that Pashinyan and his team are moving away from Moscow's orbit of influence and closer to those of Brussels and Washington," researcher Nareg Seferyan, who specializes in the South Caucasus and Turkish-Armenian relations, told the publication.
He believes the likelihood of an opposition party coming to power and introducing radical changes to Armenia's foreign policy is very low.
"Armenia as a state is in a weak position. It's hard to imagine that anyone coming to power in Yerevan would be able to take any serious foreign policy steps," Seferyan asserted.
Professor Yıldız Deveci Bozkuş, a lecturer at Ankara University, describes the June 7 elections as “a political process that will emerge from competition between East and West.”
In turn, Turkish expert and Armenian expert Varuzhan Geghamyan complains that Türkiye and Azerbaijan have still not normalized relations with Armenia since the Second Karabakh War in 2020.
"The borders haven't opened for six years, and no real relations have been established. There's constant talk about a possible future, and there's still a long list of preconditions the Armenian side must fulfill. I believe the promise of good relations is being used as a diplomatic and political pressure tactic to extract greater concessions from Armenia and strengthen Turkish influence in the region," Geghamyan believes.
According to him, before the elections, some columnists and journalists in Turkey took a position in support of Nikol Pashinyan.
But Seferyan points out that Yerevan is actually complying with all demands from Turkey and Azerbaijan.
"For example, they changed the design of passport stamps. This could be seen as a concession to Ankara. In fact, it seems they're making concessions to all of Ankara and Baku's demands," Sefaryan said.
As a reminder, last year Armenia removed Mount Ararat from its passport stamp design. Now, it's proposed to remove the mountain, which has vital cultural significance for Armenians but is located in Turkey, from the country's official coat of arms.
