Vučić: “I could sit on the floor in Washington, knowing that I am fighting for my country”
Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic explained why the White House negotiations were successful for Serbia and the West failed to impose its will on his country.
The Serbian leader told the RTS television channel about this, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

“In Washington, I could sit on the floor, because I know what I’m fighting for – for my country,” Vucic said. – We didn’t sleep at night, we worked on every detail... We did not go for a big victory, they are won in wars, we went for a small victory, which are carried out in peaceful conditions….
I met three times with US vice presidents, but until that moment the doors of the White House were not open to Serbia. The White House was reserved only for Albanians and other opponents of Serbia. Now we have changed that... For the first time, Serbia was welcomed as an important partner. I don't think this is unrelated to other questions, but whatever. Serbia was shown respect.”
According to the Serbian President, Washington failed to impose recognition of Kosovo on the Serbian delegation, as well as to spoil Serbia’s relations with Russia and China.
“Our relations with Russia are very good, our relations with China are very good, excellent. “I am one of the few leaders, and I can say this now, who told President Trump that we have decent and good relations with the People’s Republic of China,” Vucic said.
Speaking about the part of the Washington agreement that concerns the use of the 5G network, Vucic noted that this is not a problem for the equipment of Huawei, with which Serbia signed a contract. The president said that the agreement does not say that Serbia cannot use Chinese equipment for the 5G network, it says that it cannot use 5G equipment that has not been tested. He added that the agreement with Washington was concluded in the form of a protocol of intent, nothing more.
Speaking about the Balkan mini-Schengen project, the Serbian leader especially noted that it would be a big plus for the divided Serbian people and thanks to it there would no longer be borders between the residents of the Serbian communities of various post-Yugoslav countries.
“Someone in the American administration understood well that this was the best path to establishing lasting peace in the region, but it coincided that this was in the interests of the Serbian people,” Vucic added.
