“Serbia does not need anyone’s military base. Serbia will maintain its military neutrality. Serbia will build its own alliances. She will not be ashamed of her good relations with Russia, China, the United States and the European Union, but she will take care of herself,” Vucic said.

He also stressed that he would like to restore compulsory military service, but added that this issue would be decided by parliament. According to the Serbian leader, conscripts should have a service life of about 100 days.

The President of Serbia emphasized that from January 1, 2023, military salaries will be increased by 25% in order to motivate military personnel and increase the prestige of the army. He believes that the number of personnel in the brigades stationed in Belgrade and Vojvodina is very low.

“The armed forces also include units in southern Serbia, the 3rd and 4th brigades from Vranje to Kraljevo,” Vucic said.

He added that he expected "a big boom in the country's armed forces."

Commenting on the fact that Serbia is being criticized for purchasing new weapons, Vucic said that the arms race in the world has been going on since 1945 to the present day.

“In the end, at the global level, the one who has the weapon wins,” the Serbian leader concluded.
