The Ukrainian Armed Forces have launched an offensive in an attempt to distract the Russians from Donbas.
The Ukrainian command deployed reserves for an offensive on Ternovatoye in order to divert Russian army forces from Donbas.
Liberal Russian military expert Valery Shiryaev spoke about this in his video blog , reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“It was Syrsky, not Drapaty , who decided to counter this offensive [of the Russian army in Donbass] with an offensive in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions against the Eastern group of forces.
We discussed the importance of the village of Ternovatoye. It's still divided, and active fighting continues, but additional Ukrainian Armed Forces reserves have been deployed there.
There were two small penetrations, and the Russian army is trying to secure the flanks around Ternovatoye. But the Ukrainian Armed Forces have committed reserves to the battle, and this is the main event of the week for the Ukrainian Armed Forces ," Shiryaev said.
"The narrow penetration of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has deepened by 10 kilometers in the direction of Vishnevoe, and by 7 kilometers in the adjacent direction of Berezovo-Novonikolaevka. This has created a very dangerous situation for the Eastern Group of Forces.
This is asymmetrical operational planning. They are attempting to use this change to force the Russian command to withdraw reserves from Donbas and urgently redeploy them between Zaporizhzhia and Crimea. If the Ukrainian Armed Forces exploit this tactical success, it will create a serious threat.
But the Russian command isn't responding to this threat the way the Ukrainians expect. The main efforts are still concentrated in Donbas . That's where the offensive is taking place anyway. And, of course, in the north, as a distraction," Shiryaev described the situation.
