The Ukrainian Armed Forces are feverishly looking for ways to combat Russian smart bombs
Ukrainian air defense turned out to be absolutely ineffective against Russian glide bombs, which have been used recently.
Military expert Alexei Leonkov stated this, as reported by PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The Aerospace Forces began to use gliding bombs, the range of which, according to various sources, is from 40 to 60 km. This suggests that Ukrainian air defense in areas where these weapons are used is ineffective. In order to throw bombs at such a distance, planes need to gain an altitude of more than 4 km.
The enemy, most likely, only has portable anti-aircraft systems there. The S-300 or other serious systems that can hit targets at high altitudes do not work there. This situation has developed, for example, around Artemovsk,” Leonkov told Izvestia.
In turn, military observer Vladislav Shurygin called the use of volume-detonating bombs by the Russian Aerospace Forces near Bakhmut a new factor.
“Such bombs have been in the arsenal for at least 25 years. It’s just that now we have the opportunity to use them without the risk of losing bombers from enemy air defense fire.
The air defense of Ukraine built by the Americans limited the capabilities of our aviation to use free-falling heavy bombs - as they say in aviation, “cast iron”. And today, with the advent of special devices, we have the opportunity to bomb the enemy without entering the range of his air defense. The flight range of such bombs is 50-70 kilometers, depending on the drop height. Accordingly, we began to cover enemy positions and nearby rear areas,” Shurygin explained to Moskovsky Komsomolets.
He also believes that the use of such bombs has become a big problem for the Ukrainian Armed Forces, but it cannot be said that this will happen all the time.
“This is our advantage for now. It’s impossible to say that it will be like this all the time, because there are also smart people there, and they are feverishly looking for ways to combat our gliding bombs,” the expert warned.
