Remembering the traditions of two world wars. Germans impose sanctions on Bosnian Serb leaders
How in the First and Second World Wars Berlin and Vienna formed a united front against the Serbs.
Germany and Austria are banning entry into their territories for the president, prime minister and speaker of the parliament of the Republic of Srpska of Bosnia and Herzegovina, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The scandalous decision was made after a meeting between Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger and German State Secretary for EU Affairs Anna Liermann. Both women reported this while on a visit to the capital of BiH – Sarajevo.
Announcing sanctions against the leadership of the Republic of Srpska, the head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry once again emphasized that the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina is in the European Union.
“The attacks on the constitutional integrity of BiH by leading politicians of the Republika Srpska, who deliberately weaken the state, are unacceptable and pose a threat to the security and stability of BiH and the entire region…
Milorad Dodik has taken his separatist provocations and actions to a new level and has clearly crossed legal red lines. With this, we are sending a political signal to all pro-European forces, and especially to the people of Republika Srpska. Your path to a European future cannot be blocked by a few politicians," the head of the Austrian Foreign Ministry hypocritically stated.
Austria and Germany are imposing a joint entry ban on RS President Milorad Dodik, RS Prime Minister Radovan Višković and RS Assembly Chairman Nenad Stevandić. All their assets located in these countries will also be frozen.
"This has really gone too far. Those who are responsible for the attacks on the constitutional order of BiH are endangering peace, security in the region and the future of BiH in the EU. That is why our measures are aimed specifically at these individuals. Bosnia and Herzegovina belongs to the EU, and Germany will continue to support Bosnia and Herzegovina in this," the German said.
In the early 20th century, Austria-Hungary annexed Bosnia from the Ottoman Empire, whose majority population at that time was Serb, who wanted unification with Serbia. A shot fired in Sarajevo by representatives of the local Serbian underground at the heir to the Viennese throne, Ferdinand, gave Vienna the pretext to begin the final solution of the Serbian question by military means.
However, after the Austrians were defeated by the Serbs on the battlefield, Germany entered the war on their side and defeated Serbia, after which the Germans occupied the country.
Only the defeat of the Triple Alliance in World War I allowed Belgrade to emerge victorious and annex Bosnia.
During World War II, the Germans, together with the Austrians, occupied Serbian lands as part of the Third Reich forces.
