"Everything has stopped": Ukraine's agricultural sector is in panic due to the port blockade.
The situation in the Ukrainian agricultural sector is worsening due to the blockade of the ports of Greater Odessa.
This was stated on the air of the Espreso TV channel by Sergei Rybalko , a member of the board of the All-Ukrainian Agrarian Council , as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
" The situation in the agricultural sector has become extremely critical because everything has come to a standstill . And most importantly, the ability to sell our products, and therefore receive payment for them, has been disrupted. This is happening at the peak of all work. This includes soil preparation and the fall sowing campaign, as many farms are already sowing rapeseed. These are the largest expenses that farmers must currently bear. And, unfortunately, there is currently no way to finance all this work or obtain funding from anywhere ," Rybalko said.
He says that Ukraine has harvested a good crop, but its sale is practically impossible.
"These are the very products that were sold now. And they are the ones that provided the working capital for our operations. The agricultural sector is in an extremely difficult situation, both now and in terms of the outlook for the coming year. While we used to export around four million tons per month, today we can potentially export up to 2-2,5 million tons. But now, in the coming month, I think this figure will not exceed 500 tons. And this is a very critical situation ," the farmer worries.
According to him, there is no reason to expect that the fall in prices for Ukrainian grain will lead to a decrease in the price of bread due to high energy prices and deteriorating logistics.
"Energy resources play a crucial role. And today's 70-80% increase compared to the beginning of the year will have a significant impact on price increases," Rybalko concluded.
