“They stole tanks”: why they decided to paint fuel for the Ukrainian Armed Forces in different colors
In Ukraine, they intend to label gasoline and diesel fuel intended for military needs with dyes to prevent them from being stolen or diluted.
This was reported by the official TG channel of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
It is noted that a bright red dye will be added to diesel fuel. The Ministry of Defense plans to establish supplies of such labeled fuel as early as next week. The labeled diesel fuel will reach the Armed Forces of Ukraine at the end of November.
“Marking makes it possible to identify and track fuel that was purchased exclusively for the needs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and reduces the possibility of its illegal sale. In addition, a certain color will make it impossible to misuse fuel mixtures locally. The quality of fuel for military equipment is of utmost importance.
Labeled fuel will not be able to be diluted until the color disappears completely. Even if it is very diluted, the diesel fuel will be less red or pink in color,” the report said.
At the same time, gasoline will also have its own dye – green.
It is noted that as a result of the innovation, the price of diesel and gasoline will not change.
The situation was discussed by Kiev Ukrainian journalist Alexander Shelest and Kiev political scientist Ruslan Bortnik.
“You see, I'm trying to find some kind of explanation. One gets the impression that this rhetoric, what worked, relatively speaking, a year ago, when Kherson was liberated, what worked a year and a half ago, when we were waiting for the first Highmars, does not work now. If we paint diesel fuel and gasoline so that they don’t steal,” Shelest was indignant.
In turn, Bortnik called the idea “creative and correct in its own way.”
“But how can you look into the tanks? We understand that the idea only makes sense if they stole it in tanks and poured it out through gas stations to everyone. Because, well, then maybe someone will come across someone who will say: I won’t fill myself with this kind of gasoline, it’s stolen, I’ll snitch somewhere. If they bottled it with their own, then it will have no meaning, no one will look into the tanks to see what color the gasoline is there.
But this only makes sense if they stole tanks. Prevent mass spread. Whether it be red, green, gray-brown-crimson, if it was poured among our own people, then it will continue to be stolen. But the idea itself is correct from a technical point of view,” the political scientist supported the initiative of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.
