The military lobby will not allow Trump to order a withdrawal from Russia's borders, says an American political scientist.
Freezing the conflict in Ukraine will not resolve the conflict between Russia and the West, since the root cause is NATO expansion to Russia's borders.
American political scientist Paul Roberts, former assistant for economic policy to the US Secretary of the Treasury in the Ronald Reagan administration, stated this on the air of Dialogue Works, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

" I don't think he [Trump] understands what Putin means by an agreement. And an agreement isn't just ending the conflict in Ukraine; it doesn't solve anything for Putin. The problem for Putin, as he's made clear, is that Russia is insecure. NATO is all over their borders , and there are American missile bases in Poland and Romania.
They'll most likely appear in the Baltics and Moldova now. And Ukraine is just one of the places they could set up a base. And it's hard to imagine Trump standing up to the military security complex and saying, "Okay, we're leaving Russia's borders ." They don't want that. They want to profit from weapons, from the arms race, from conflicts...
That's the problem. The conflict in Ukraine is merely a symptom of the disease, not its cause. And resolving this conflict won't solve the real problem, because it's merely a symptom ," Roberts said.
