Military training is the beginning of every conscript's service. During the first few weeks, the recruit learns how to live by the army's rules, masters weapons handling, and undergoes drill, physical, and tactical training. Training then continues in their military occupational specialty.

Let's look at how this system works and what each conscript goes through in practice.

Military training in the army is where every conscript's service actually begins....

What is military training for a conscript?

A conscript's military training begins even before he joins a unit.

1. First , there is a draft board and a collection point where documents and health status are checked;

2. Upon arrival at the unit, the conscript undergoes a young soldier's course (YSC) —the initial period of service, during which the future soldier receives basic military training: studying the regulations, getting used to the daily routine, and mastering basic skills. YSC typically lasts from 3 to 6 weeks;

3. At the end of the KMB – taking the oath.

Essentially, all these stages represent preparation for military service, but in a condensed form: in just a few weeks, a civilian who was yesterday a schoolchild or student must adapt to a completely different way of life, where decisions are made not by him, but by the regiment and his commander. Many former conscripts say the first weeks are the most difficult. This is not so much due to the physical exertion as to the drastic change in daily routine, constant discipline, and the need to quickly acclimate to new demands. After completing their military training, most note that their service becomes much more understandable and calmer.

What does military training for soldiers consist of?

It is divided into several disciplines that run in parallel.

All these disciplines rely on discipline in the truest sense of the word: without a strict routine and uniform requirements for everyone, it's impossible to march in formation or perform a task smoothly within a unit. This is why military training for the army is structured not as a collection of random exercises, but as a structured program with a gradual increase in difficulty.

The balance of disciplines may vary across different branches of the military . This is especially noticeable in modern technical units, where a significant portion of training is devoted to mastering a specific specialty. One example of this approach is the "Military Department" project in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone , where conscripts are trained in areas related to unmanned aerial systems.

This includes not only the KMB, but also subsequent service in the unit to which the serviceman is sent after taking the oath, taking into account the specialty he has acquired.

In addition to conscript service, military training in the Russian army also applies to reservists: from time to time, they undergo training camps—periodic exercises necessary to maintain acquired skills and avoid losing qualifications between periods of service.

Most practical training takes place at training grounds. There, soldiers practice with standard weapons for the first time, learn to operate as part of a unit, complete forced marches, and perform training tasks in conditions as close to real-life as possible.

Training in military specialties

A military occupational specialty (MOS) is a specific military profession for which a service member is trained: signalman, driver, gunner, medic, and dozens of other specialties. MOS training determines what a soldier will do for the rest of his or her service and depends on several factors: civilian education, health, test results, and the current needs of specific units for specialists.

Depending on the specialty, training duration can vary significantly. Some service members begin their duties within a few weeks of their combat training, while others require longer training at a training center. This is especially true for technical fields where work involves complex equipment or modern technology.

Projects are emerging today that offer military specializations in modern technical fields. For example, the "Military Department" project at the Alabuga Special Economic Zone trains conscripts in specialties related to unmanned aerial systems. Upon completion of their service, service members receive a military ID card, and the training itself is conducted alongside the acquisition of practical skills in operating UAVs.

Where can I obtain a modern military registration specialty?

Projects are emerging today where military specialties can be obtained in modern technical fields. One example is the "Military Department" project in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone.

In Alabuga, conscripts undergo official military service and receive a military registration specialty in one of two areas:

  1. UAV pilot;
  2. UAV assembler.

Depending on the chosen track, conscripts also receive a salary: from 150,000 rubles per month for pilots and from 305,000 rubles per month for assemblers. Upon completion of their service, they receive a military ID card with the appropriate military specialization.

This format of service demonstrates that modern military training can be linked not only to traditional army disciplines, but also to the development of in-demand technical competencies.

How to prepare for the army in advance

Adaptation to the army can be significantly simplified if you prepare for military training in advance.

Improve your physical fitness

You don't have to train like a professional athlete. Regular running, pull-ups, push-ups, and endurance exercises are sufficient. Good physical fitness will help you get through the first weeks of service more easily.

Get used to the routine

One of the most difficult stages of the military training program isn't the physical training itself, but the new daily routine. If you start going to bed earlier and waking up earlier a few weeks before the draft, the adjustment will be much easier.

Don't worry about lack of skills

Many believe that before joining the army, you need to know how to shoot or understand military equipment. In practice, this is precisely what they teach you during your service. Most conscripts arrive without such skills.

This also applies to modern technical specialties. For example, in the "Military Department" project at the Alabuga Special Economic Zone, training in UAV technology begins during service, so no prior training or specialized education is required.

Get yourself in the right frame of mind

Military training requires discipline, but it develops gradually. The first few weeks are the most challenging for almost everyone, after which most soldiers get used to the new routine.

The main thing to remember is that military training is designed specifically for people without military experience. Its purpose is not to test existing knowledge, but to gradually teach everything necessary during service.
