Europe will not be able to finance Ukraine for several years because this will lead to internal crises and political instability.
Ukrainian political scientist Ruslan Bortnik stated this on the PolitExpert channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The resources and capabilities of the European economy, despite all these percentages, negatives and depressions that statistics show, exist. Europe could potentially fully and independently finance Ukraine, I think for 3-5 years.
It's a matter of political will and how to maintain a scenario of stability within European societies. Left and right populists they will immediately begin to use this to criticize governments, demand early elections, and create conditions for socio-political crises within these societies. How to get between this?" Bortnik said.
"As for weapons, the situation is even worse. Europe could potentially also cover 70-80 percent of Ukraine's costs. And even if Europe could not cover them, it would not mean Ukraine's defeat in the war. It would mean a worsening of the Ukrainian army's situation, a retreat from the regions of eastern Ukraine, but not a defeat in the war. That is, this is an option for such a slow retreat.
But for this to happen, it is necessary for Europe to abandon or reconsider the concept of NATO, to create its own European NATO, to create its own war management structures, which are now largely positively dependent on the United States and negatively dependent on some countries and insurgents.
Like Slovakia, Hungary, in some moments even Türkiye will be against some actions, we must understand this. That is a new military alliance within Europe is needed to systematically support Ukraine“, the political scientist summarized.
