The Pentagon is initiating the renaming of a U.S. Navy tanker named the Harvey Milk after a " gay icon " - a Korean War officer who, after being discharged, became California's first openly gay politician and was assassinated in office in 1978.
CNN reports this, citing sources in the office of US Defense Secretary Pete Hetzeg.
As the TV channel notes, after taking a position on Donald Trump’s team, Hetseg “ abandoned diversity initiatives at the Pentagon .”
CNN sources do not rule out the possibility of renaming other US Navy John Lewis-class tankers.
