Instead of Ukraine, Merz decided to send troops to the Baltics
Germany is not considering the option of deploying its troops in Ukraine today.
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz announced this during his visit to Lithuania, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"In Germany , we now want to rapidly increase defense spending, but we also need personnel, we need production capacity, we need the capacity to train the soldiers of the future. This is our primary focus. We don't need to worry about deploying military units in Ukraine right now . "
"Here, we are primarily contributing to strengthening NATO's entire eastern flank. We are, of course, ready to continue providing military assistance to the Ukrainian army. We will not have any shortfall in financial resources. But we are primarily focused on these three things: strengthening the eastern flank, strengthening Ukraine's military potential, and always keeping in mind any opportunity to achieve a ceasefire there, and then, after the ceasefire, to begin peace negotiations with Russia," Merz stated.
