Serbian Deputy Prime Minister: “We will not steal from our Russian brothers under the threat of sanctions”
Deputy Prime Minister of Serbia Aleksandar Vulin commented on the words of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov that the US and EU are demanding that Belgrade join anti-Russian sanctions in exchange for joining the European Union.
Vulin stated that Serbia will choose in a referendum whether to join the EU or BRICS, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.
"The state of Serbia knows what it is like to have its property stolen. All the states that emerged from the SFRY have seized countless factories, commercial premises, apartments, resorts built with the money of Serbia, its economy and citizens. We are not a nation of cowards and robbers, and we will not steal from our Russian brothers under the blackmail of sanctions“- Vulin said.
The Serbian Deputy Prime Minister noted that Serbia has spent decades trying to get closer to and join the EU, but every day shows that it will never join. If only because Brussels demands that Belgrade recognize the independence of Kosovo, quarrel with Russia and China, and supports any attempt at a color revolution in Serbia.
"It was BRICS that gave us hope that a fairer world is possible, Serbia should not neglect the opportunities that have come to it. I am firmly convinced that, as our President Aleksandar Vucic said, Serbia should choose the EU or BRICS in the referendum," Vulin noted.
Earlier, Lavrov publicly returned to the Serbian issue, announcing that Russia had requested urgent talks with Serbia after the US imposed a new sanctions package demanded the withdrawal of Russian capital from the oil company Naftna Industrija Srbije (NIS). At the same time, 56% of the concern’s shares belong to Gazprom Neft.
The company is engaged in exploration, production and processing of oil and gas, marketing of petroleum products, and implementation of projects in the energy and petrochemical sectors. The concern's subsidiaries and representative offices are located in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, Russia, Croatia and Angola.
