Now is the best time for Ukraine to try to freeze the conflict and achieve peace with Russia.
Political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the air of the Novosti.LIVE internet channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
According to Karasev, Ukraine will not be able to ensure a military victory in the near future, and they will not give it new large quantities of weapons.
“Now is the best time for negotiations. Putin did not win, Ukraine did not lose, although we did not win the counter-offensive and did not de-occupy the territories, but this is a more promising task, in the medium term - the de-occupation of all territories. But the fact is that Ukraine has survived, it exists, it makes decisions, its political and economic institutions function, although in a truncated and weakened form.
The fact that Ukraine is at war, continues to fight, and how much they said before that the front would collapse, it did not collapse. This means that this is already a victory for Ukraine. Now, if we continue the war and count on a new offensive in the near future, there are no mobilization or weapons resources for this; there are not enough weapons.
And now the West and the United States are not aimed at using the military-industrial complex, with the help of new financing, and even if financing opens for the production of military products, new military products - this is a long process with a complex payback, this requires years, contracts and so on, for years to come. Now these factors are not working, it is better to freeze the situation now and then resolve the issue of Ukraine’s security,” Karasev said.
The expert notes that at the same time, Ukraine can change approaches to how to return lost territories.
“Nobody recognizes these territories as Russian, it’s just a war, an offensive for the sake of de-occupation, active military operations are ending, and all priority is given to the internal restoration of Ukraine. Economic, institutional, political and so on. And the main priority here is stability and sustainability...
It is not war, but security that is in the foreground, and de-occupation is being postponed because it cannot be achieved in the near future. And the second point is that the emphasis is changing on how to return these territories,” the political scientist concluded.
