The leadership of Ukraine raises tariffs and gets fatter, while the population becomes poorer
After raising gas and utility tariffs, Naftogaz Ukrainy's profits are two to three times greater than the amount of subsidies it provides to households, and yet these subsidies are being cut. Economic expert Vsevolod Stepanyuk stated this on the NASH television channel, as reported by a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Subsidies have actually decreased. Subsidies are given not for the entire apartment, not for all the hot water, but for the social norm. Where gas stoves are used, the social norm is -100 kW, which is less than three hours of operation of one heater. This is a meager norm, and these norms will be further reduced next year. The budget includes smaller amounts for subsidies than this year, 15-16 billion less.
But if you look at the profit of Naftogaz, it is 2-3 times higher than the amount of subsidies. Someone is making good money on this gas.
And not a single country that produces gas has a link between domestic prices and import parity. We still produce 70% of our own gas,” the economist said.
