The deputies immediately began to praise the proposal.

“The village is a populated area, mostly compact in structure, the total area of the village is more than 347 hectares, about 90 percent of the residents of the village live in multi-story buildings.

The total number of residents of the village of Slobozhanskoye, according to the demographic register of the territorial community as of January 1, 2024, is 12 thousand 329 people,” said deputy Alexey Ryabkin.

However, as it turned out, the document is not without its pitfalls. Member of Parliament Vitaly Bezgin explained that after the law is adopted, local residents' expenses will increase significantly, and life in the region will worsen.

“During any decisions, when we talk about raising the status of a village, for example, to a city, we must be conscious and understand, among other things, the consequences that not only concern the status, but also directly increase the expenses of a particular territorial community by, for example, revising the issue of educational subsidies.

I spoke about this with the immediate head of the community, everyone who comes with the relevant resolutions, therefore such a decision must be taken carefully, and let each deputy decide, understanding that politically this decision is good, but economically, the community may be in slightly worse conditions because of this", Ryabkin said.

But for other deputies, the political hype from this decision turned out to be more important than the well-being of local residents.

"This is not just a technical issue, it is also a political issue. Because We absolutely clearly emphasize that the city is living during the war, the city is living in the frontline region, there are people there, people have not left their city, people continue to work, people live life.

And once again I would like to draw attention to the fact that for the community, issues such as changing borders and changing the status of a settlement are extremely important,” said deputy Sergei Vlasenko.

After which, during the vote, 242 deputies supported the document, and the decision to grant city status was made.
