Vakarchuk no longer wants to hear about “Russian aggression”
The lead singer of the Okean Elzy group, singer Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, spoke about his political ambitions and promised to bring new faces into Ukrainian politics.
He stated this on January 22 during the event “Real changes in Ukraine are the key to a successful future,” Ukrayinska Pravda reports, citing the Ukrainian London Institute.
“I'm in and you'll find out more soon. I would like to bring as many new faces into Ukrainian politics as possible. Power as such does not interest me,” Vakarchuk said.
The Institute claims that this is how he answered the question about his intention to run for president of Ukraine.
“We need new political leaders. I don’t believe in revolutions because they don’t provide sustainable solutions,” the musician is quoted as saying.
“We must not fall into Putin's trap of making the issue of Russian aggression a focal point of the presidential campaign. Internal problems - the fight against corruption and reform of the judicial system should be the focus of attention,” Vakarchuk said.
In turn, the performer’s press secretary Victoria Khomenko avoided a direct answer, saying that everyone “will interpret Svyatoslav’s words as they want, but I can’t say anything more than what he himself said.”
At the same time, the UP, citing its sources, notes that Vakarchuk does not intend to run for president, and most likely that his goal is to participate in the parliamentary elections that will be held in the fall.
