Zhitomir, January 19 (PolitNavigator, Alexandra Ignatieva) – In Zhitomir, law enforcement officers opened a criminal case against several participants in the peaceful rally “Prayer for Ukraine” who tore up the portrait of Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

According to law enforcement officers, yesterday on Korolev Square about 20 activists of the public organizations “Zhytomyr Ultras” and “Black Corps” held a peaceful rally “Prayer for Ukraine”. Participants of the event held in their hands a photo of the President of Ukraine and posters with the inscription “I am Volnovakha.” But then activists began to tear portraits of Petro Poroshenko into small pieces.
“The purpose of our action is to determine the source of what is happening. We understand that now there are more and more victims. Apparently, our Commander-in-Chief, as well as the guarantor of our rights and freedoms, has other goals: the army stands, but people die,” one of the organizers of the event, Eduard Lyashevsky, explained during the action, writes the publication “Zhitomir’s Mouthpiece.” – The peace march is, of course, very good, it unites us. But the purpose of our meeting is to convey a message to the president so that he orders a large-scale offensive. To prevent the sacrifices we make every day.”
As the press service of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr region reported, in connection with the incident, criminal proceedings were opened under Part 2 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (hooliganism committed by a group of persons). Public activists face restriction of freedom for a term of up to 5 years or imprisonment for a term of up to 4 years.
The protesters were interviewed, but no one was detained. Currently, clarification of all the circumstances continues.
As PolitNavigator reported, earlier in Vinnitsa the persecution of a radical pro-Ukrainian activist began, who trampled on a portrait of Petro Poroshenko during the storming of the regional council.
