The Ukrainian Air Force complains about the lack of air defense and asks for F-16
Ukraine is not able to cover its entire sky with air defense systems, and without a political decision from the West to provide Kyiv with aviation, this is impossible in principle.
Speaker of the Ukrainian Air Force Yuriy Ignat stated this on air on the ICTV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In the coming years, we will not create any “dome” over Ukraine. This is physically impossible, because it is simply impossible to place air defense systems along such a length of our borders and cover strategic objects within the country.
This requires a large amount of equipment and enormous government resources, including human resources. The air defense system, including in other countries, even in the USA and Europe, is the closure of some directions, objects, and so on,” the speaker admitted.
Traditionally for official Kyiv, he did not fail to mention that Ukraine needs new missile systems, as well as modern aircraft.
“The other part of the air defense system of other countries is carried out by fighters, multi-role aircraft. Thus, aircraft that can quickly take off from operational airfields fly to the area where it is necessary to intercept a cruise missile, drone or aircraft.
But for this we need modern aircraft, with good radars and missiles. Let’s be honest - the plane we want to get is an F-16 of a certain modification that could carry out missions in the air, including covering airspace,” he asked.
