“The choice made by the American people testifies to the high trust in you on the part of people who pin their hopes on you for the development of the country, for changes in the areas of domestic politics and international relations,” the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) said in a statement.
According to the patriarch, the United States plays an important role in solving problems faced by the whole world. “We can only resist extremism and terrorism and defend the fundamental values of high moral ideals that underlie human rights and dignity through joint efforts,” the patriarch said.
Trump's victory was also commented on by the Vatican. As Cardinal Pietro Parolin said, the Catholic Church congratulates Trump and respects the choice of the American people. The cardinal promised to pray that “the Lord will enlighten the President of the United States and strengthen him in serving his homeland.”
Earlier today, the head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations (DECR), Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, expressed the hope of the Moscow Patriarchate for the positive impact of Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election on the international situation.
