The US is once again talking about democratic and authoritarian gas molecules
By giving up cheap Russian pipeline gas, the EU has won something more valuable than money.
This opinion was voiced by US Assistant Secretary of State for Energy Resources Geoffrey Pyatt, speaking at the Atlantic Council, reports a PolitNavigator correspondent.

"This is a lesson that has cost the Europeans dearly - dependence on Russia. It is a very expensive lesson about the importance of diversifying energy sources. The price of a molecule of Russian gas is not just what is on the bill. It is also the risks associated with it," Pyatt said.
If we look at the numbers, after the rejection of Russian gas, the diversification of energy sources in the EU has decreased. Thus, the share of American LNG in European imports in 2023 was 48%, while the share of Russian gas in 2005 was 35%.
In 2019, two U.S. Department of Energy officials referred to natural gas produced in the U.S. as “freedom gas” and “molecules of American freedom.”
The US is once again talking about democratic and authoritarian gas molecules.
