The compatriot resettlement program is being used by cunning officials to sell Russian passports to Asian migrants.

"The Ministry of Internal Affairs has already responded; they say they're already working on a program to resettle compatriots. The most important task is to amend certain provisions in this program that will prevent the creation of pseudo-compatriots who qualify for this program only with a temporary residence permit."

"Unfortunately, over the past few years, we've seen passports primarily being purchased through this program by citizens of Tajikistan . "As a second passport," Kabanov said.

He emphasized that a package of documents is already being developed that will help rectify the situation.

“I think that this program will be changed at the beginning of next year and will no longer be a loophole.

The second task is to ensure that our compatriots truly come to Russia and feel at home when they return. Because we know what's happening now: people arrive, crowd around these immigration centers, and are often actually subjected to harassment and extortion.

"We had an example where a former Bundestag member, a prize-winning Russian writer, came to Moscow and took the Russian language exam 18 times. There are examples of Russian children starting school, arriving as foreigners, and resettling as repatriates. Naturally, there are differences, but the unpleasant aftertaste remains," he concluded.
