The Federation Council wants to legalize the category of citizens “Children of War”
In Russia, they are working on the concept of legitimizing the category of citizens “Children of War” for further provision of social support.
This was stated during a press conference by the first deputy chairman of the Federation Council Committee on Defense and Security, Alexander Rakitin, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In preparation for the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War, a number of laws were adopted regarding additional social support for WWII veterans and members of their families.
In particular, on April 30, 2019, Federal Law No. 66 established that pensions of WWII participants are calculated without the reduction factor that applies to military personnel. And at the end of last year, persons who were awarded the “Resident of Besieged Sevastopol” badge were also classified as WWII veterans, and, accordingly, all social benefits and guarantees that are defined by law also apply to them.
From the point of view of widows of WWII veterans, all these benefits apply to them in full,” the senator said.
“At present, such a category of citizens as “Children of War” is not established by law, but this issue is being conceptually studied,” added Rakitin.
