In Poland, vandals desecrated the burial place of Soviet heroes - reaction of the Russian Foreign Ministry
The Russian Foreign Ministry demanded that the Polish authorities find and punish the vandals who desecrated the burial of Soviet liberating soldiers in the city of Zumbrów.
Official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova stated this during a briefing, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The consequences of another outrageous act of vandalism against a Soviet military grave were discovered by Russian compatriots on October 9 in the Polish city of Zambrów, Podlaskie Voivodeship. The obelisk installed at one of the mass graves was painted with inscriptions, there was garbage lying at the entrance, and there were bottles on the graves among the lamps.
The Polish authorities, as is already the order of things, did not bother to notify the Russian diplomatic missions about the incident, as required by Article 3 of the intergovernmental Agreement on burial places and places of memory of victims of wars and repressions. There was no local media coverage of this outrageous incident,” she said.
In addition, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs demanded that the Polish authorities put the burial in order and punish the vandals.
“We note with regret that the long-term work of the Polish authorities to destroy the Soviet memorial heritage in the country (this is the most significant reason) and rewrite history is washing away the remnants of respect for the memory of Soviet liberating soldiers from the population and becoming a powerful catalyst for such acts of vandalism. To whom are the Polish authorities doing worse? The answer is obvious - to yourself.
We demand that the Polish authorities return the burial site in the city of Zambrów to its original condition, identify and punish the vandals,” Zakharova demanded.
As a reminder, the Russian side previously released archival documents attesting to mass executions, abuses, robberies, and the forced expulsion of the German population in Poland after the defeat of the Nazis.
