Berlin believes that the issue of reparations and compensation for military losses is closed, and the German government does not intend to enter into negotiations with Poland on this issue. This was stated in a note from the German Foreign Ministry, which caused discontent in Warsaw, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

The German Foreign Ministry responded to a note from the Polish Foreign Ministry regarding the payment of reparations for losses during the Second World War. The response states that the issue of reparations and compensation for war losses remains closed, and the German government does not intend to enter into negotiations on this matter.

This was informed by the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which promised to continue efforts to recover money from Germany.

“The Polish government will continue its efforts to resolve obligations arising from German aggression and occupation in 1939-1945,” the Polish Foreign Ministry emphasized.

Deputy Foreign Minister Arkadiusz Mularczyk said that such a response from the German Foreign Ministry “represents a disrespectful attitude towards Poland and the Poles.”

“We will continue our actions on the issue of compensation, and dialogue with Germany will be conducted through international organizations,” he said.

“I am very negative and critical about this. If Germany's position on the extended Polish note actually consists of one sentence - that, according to the German government, the case is closed - then there is no legal reasoning in this answer. This shows that it is not really known what arguments the German government makes on this matter. There is no legal answer here, this is the first thing to do,” added Mularczyk.

In addition, he compared Poland with African countries.

“Fairy tales include statements from press conferences about excellent Polish-German relations. Today the Germans are paying for colonialism, they are paying Namibia, there is even talk of returning artifacts to Egypt. At the same time, double standards are applied to Poland,” the Polish diplomat noted offendedly.

Let us recall that on October 3, 2022, Polish Foreign Minister Zbigniew Rau signed a diplomatic note on reparations from Germany. In it, Poland demanded compensation for material and intangible losses during the Second World War in the amount of 6 trillion 220 billion 609 million zlotys, or more than 1,3 trillion euros.

As PolitNavigator reported , Poland is asking Germany for money to support Ukrainian refugees, while simultaneously demanding reparations.
