At the UN, Russia cracks down on Western overseer in the Balkans
Russia's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Anna Evstigneeva said that the behavior of the UN High Representative in Bosnia and Herzegovina Valentin Intsko provokes tension in this country.
This is how the Russian representative responded to Intsko’s recent statements at the UN.
As a PolitNavigator correspondent reports, in a report to the UN Security Council, the High Representative, Austrian diplomat of Slovenian origin Valentin Inzko pointed out that the term “peaceful secession” proposed by the Republika Srpska, as well as Banja Luka’s call to rid the country of international control “can be interpreted only as a threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of BiH.”
“I must repeat that the Peace Implementation Council has repeatedly emphasized its unconditional support for the territorial integrity and fundamental structure of BiH as a single sovereign state consisting of two entities,” Inzko said. “They won’t draw a new map in BiH!”
In his report, the official mentioned the “denial of the Srebrenica genocide” by the Bosnian Serbs, as well as the “glorification of war criminals” by all three communities in the country.
In turn, Anna Evstigneeva, Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, gave a clear assessment of the words of the Western overseer of BiH at a meeting of the UN Security Council.
“Intsko’s actions only cause tension and do not contribute to the development of interethnic dialogue. This can be seen in the examples of his orders and ultimatums to the Bosnian authorities, as well as in the example of insinuations about the collective responsibility of the Serbian people for the tragic consequences of the period of armed conflict,” said the Russian diplomat.
Evstigneeva called on Intsko to stop behaving like a “self-proclaimed governor-general and not to put himself above the law and democratic institutions of the rule of law.”
At the UN , Russia harshly rebuffed the Western overseer in the Balkans.
